LOESS Project Launches Community of Practice in Catalonia to Boost Soil Health Literacy
Barcelona, Spain – 28th September, 2023
The kick-off meeting of the Community of Practice (CoP) of the European project Literacy boost through an Operational Educational Ecosystem of Societal actors on Soil Health (LOESS) in Catalonia was held on Thursday 28 September 2023 at the headquarters of the University of Barcelona (UB).
The meeting was split into two distinct parts. The first part was informative, in which the teams from the Catalan Association of Public Universities (ACUP) and Justinmind, LOESS partners, presented the project’s goals and activities, the roles they play in it, and the role played by Communities of Practice (CoPs) and Educational Innovation Groups (EIGs).
The second part was participatory, in which the attendees were divided into three groups to (1) agree on the meaning of the concept of ‘soil health’, (2) to debate the importance of literacy in this regard and (3) to identify ways to promote it. The discussion and subsequent pooling of ideas was moderated by Víctor López, associate lecturer at the Department of Teaching of Mathematics and Experimental Sciences at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB).
The meeting was attended by about thirty people, mainly researchers from universities and research centres and managers of other projects associated to the EU Mission titled A Soil Deal for Europe, but there were also a few representatives of public administration and non-governmental organisations.
