At the University of Vechta, true to the motto “Focus on the future, create change”, the future challenges of society are placed at the center of scientific discourse. The 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda and the normative framework Responsible Research and Innovation are a central point of reference for research and teaching. The aim is to reconcile the needs of society with sustainable solutions to current societal challenges through responsible research and teaching. The university focuses on teaching and learning research, professional and participation research and transformation research.

Science Shop Vechta/Cloppenburg 

University of Vechta’s Science Shop realizes dialogue and cooperative projects between science and society. It invites citizens, associations, municipalities, companies and other regional institutions to learn more about science, co-design projects and participate in research. The Science Shop also offers opportunities for students and researchers from University of Vechta to contribute to the development of the Oldenburger Muensterland. This way, everyone can help to create, disseminate and discuss knowledge useful for the region.

Prof. Dr. Leif Mönter (Didaktik der Geographie) 

Prof. Dr. Leif Mönter holds the professorship for the didactics of geography at the University of Vechta and is part of the project leadership of the LOESS team at the University of Vechta. His work focuses, for example, on education for sustainable development, experimental forms of teaching and learning, European education and global disparities in geography lessons. 

Dr. Hannah Lathan (Didaktik der Geographie) 

Dr. Hannah Lathan is a scientific assistant and postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Didactics of Geography at the University of Vechta. She is also part of the project leadership of the LOESS team at the University of Vechta. Her work focuses, among other things, on the design of geographical textbooks, regional learning and education for sustainable development as well as planetary health in education. 

Caroline Schmidt (Didaktik der Geographie) 

Caroline Schmidt works as a scientific assistant in the Department of Didactics of Geography and is responsible for the project implementation in the LOESS team at the University of Vechta. Her work focuses especially on education for sustainable development, educational processes on the topic of soil and regional learning.

Dr. Daniel Ludwig (Science Shop Vechta/Cloppenburg) 

Dr. Daniel Ludwig works in the field of research funding at the University of Vechta and staffs the knowledge-transfer position to which the Science Shop Vechta/Cloppenburg is associated. He is also part of the project leadership of the LOESS team at the University of Vechta. His work includes EU and international research funding, consulting, contract research as well as project development and project and process support in knowledge transfer.   

Kristin Dolezil (Didaktik der Geographie) 

Kristin Dolezil works as a scientific assistant in the Department of Didactics of Geography and is responsible for project implementation in the LOESS team at the University of Vechta. Her work focuses on educational processes related to soil, regional learning, as well as geographical and biological perspectives in education.
