ACUP and Justinmind share LOESS educational resources with Catalonia’s Green Schools
On Tuesday, November 11, the Spanish partners of the Literacy Boost through an
Operational Educational Ecosystem of Societal Actors on Soil Health (LOESS) project —
the Catalan Association of Public Universities (ACUP) and Justinmind — met with
members of schools belonging to Catalonia’s Green Schools Network to present and
share the educational resources developed within the project.
The Green Schools Programme, promoted by the Government of Catalonia, supports
schools across the region that seek to innovate, include, advance, systematize, and
organize educational actions with the aim of addressing, through education, the new
challenges and values of sustainability.
Víctor López, Professor at the Department of Didactics of Mathematics and
Experimental Sciences at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), underlined
the importance of soil as an environmental issue. He noted that while climate change,
drought and air pollution are addressed in schools, challenges related to soil health are
not sufficiently covered. He also emphasized the opportunities to include soil in the
primary and secondary curriculum.
Núria Jové, Head of Projects at ACUP, provided a general overview of the LOESS project
and presented all the resources co-developed by the partners. Special emphasis was
placed on two resources for schools — the Learning Scenarios and the MOOC. At this
point, Víctor López offered a deeper look into the Learning Scenarios, highlighting their
potential for classroom integration.
Three resources for transversal use were also presented: Case Studies, the App with
Augmented Reality (AR), and the Crowdmapping Tool. Xavier Renom, CEO and co-
founder of Justinmind, delved further into the App with AR, showcasing its possibilities
for educational practice.
The meeting highlighted the joint effort of ACUP and Justinmind to bring the LOESS
project’s educational materials to schools within the Green Schools Network,
reinforcing the role of education in tackling sustainability challenges.
