School vegetable garden magazine

The School Vegetable Garden magazine (in Italian: Il giornalino dell’Orto in Condotta)is an annual publication that documents the experiences of primary schools participating in the Italian Slow Food association’s “Orto in Condotta” project. This project focuses on building and managing vegetable gardens in schools across Italy.

Each participating school, involving pupils, parents, teachers, and Slow Food volunteers, submits an annual report to the national Education Office. These reports are compiled into a magazine and made freely available on the Education Office’s website.

Objective

The objective of “The School Vegetable Garden Gazette” is to showcase and report on the activities undertaken by schools participating in the “Orto in Condotta” project. This educational initiative, initiated by Slow Food Italy in 2004, focuses on the topics of soil and food for kindergartens and primary schools.

Approach

Slow Food volunteers collaborate with teachers, parents, and students to establish and maintain vegetable gardens within school premises. The publication aims to present these initiatives in a simple and engaging manner, suitable for both young pupils and adults.
