Celebrating Soil: Insights and Education at the Soil Mediators’ Day in Innsbruck

On October 10, 2024, the Soil Mediators’ Day took place in Innsbruck, organized and hosted by the University of Innsbruck’s Institute for Subject Didactics, MSE department, and the Transfer Office, in collaboration with the state of Tyrol. The conference was held in close cooperation with the Innsbruck Nature Film Festival and the Tyrolean Folk Art Museum. Our heartfelt thanks go to everyone involved in this collaboration.

The event focused on exchanging ideas about the diversity of soil and the various strategies for teaching about it. In numerous workshops, participants explored topics such as soil consumption, identifying healthy soil, soil organisms, and land use.

A brief insight into the research conducted as part of the EU project LOESS, which aims to provide insight into public awareness and knowledge on soil issues, summarized the day’s discussions and findings. Finally, a guided tour of the soil exhibition, hosted at the Metropol Cinema as part of the Innsbruck Nature Film Festival, rounded off the event. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all workshop leaders and participants for joining us.
