LOESS and CURIOSOIL projects join forces to strengthen educational policies on soil health in Spain
Under the title Teaching from the ground: What do we need to improve soil health education?, the Spanish partners of the LOESS and CURIOSOIL projects—part of the EU Mission A Soil Deal for Europe—organised two workshops focused on educational policies and soil health.
The first workshop took place on 15 April 2026 at La Noria in Málaga and online, and was aimed at primary and secondary school teachers. The second, held online on 27 May, brought together university and higher vocational education and training (VET) educators.
The workshops pursued three main objectives: identifying key needs, challenges, and opportunities to strengthen soil health education in Spain; developing policy recommendations; and sharing educational materials, practices, and resources created within the LOESS and CURIOSOIL projects.
The sessions were jointly organised by members of both projects. The LOESS team included Núria Jové, representing the Catalan Association of Public Universities (ACUP), together with members of the Community of Practice in Catalonia: Víctor López, from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), and Àngela Garcia-Lladó and Carlos Agudelo, from the University of Barcelona (UB). The CURIOSOIL team brought together representatives from the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Alberto Martín and Belén Quintana, along with members of the project’s Community of Practice in Spain: Milagros Bullón, agronomist, and Iván Salvia, from Nexo Animal Association.
Similar workshops have been organised in all countries participating in the CURIOSOIL project, including those where both projects are active, in collaboration with LOESS partners.
