LOESS Celebrates World Soil Day

Caring for Soils: Measure, Monitor, Manage is the theme for this year’s World Soil Day (WSD) campaign, emphasizing the critical need for accurate soil data and sustainable soil management practices. These efforts are essential to ensure food security and mitigate climate change. 

Soil forms the foundation of life on Earth, supporting over 95% of the food we consume and supplying vital nutrients to plants. However, human activities and climate change continue to degrade these invaluable ecosystems. 

To mark this global occasion, LOESS partners have organized diverse activities across various countries, engaging local communities, educators, and students: 

Global Activities by LOESS Partners 

Sweden 
The Swedish Society for Conservation of Nature will premiere A Secret Universe (Ett hemligt universum), a nine-minute film exploring soil ecosystems, challenges, and significance.

A panel discussion titled
The Journey of Bread: From Soil to Plate will introduce the LOESS project and its Community of Practice (CoP).

The first Students for Students panel on Composting for Soil Health will take place, featuring a presentation highlighting World Soil Day and global WSD resources.
