Pupils from La Trama School take part in a soil workshop at the Autonomous University of Barcelona as part of the European LOESS project

As part of the activities of the Community of Practice of the European LOESS project in Catalonia, on Friday 10 April, 18 first‑grade pupils from La Trama School in Sabadell took part in a soil workshop at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). The activity allowed them to explore a key scientific question: what is beneath the ground we walk on?

The workshop, led by Professor Víctor López from the Department of Science Education at the UAB, began with the children drawing what they thought they might find if they dug a hole underground. Afterwards, they observed under the microscope earthworms, beetles, roots, seeds, small stones, mycelia and other fungi, among many other elements present in the soil.
