The project LOESS and its report “Awareness, Needs and Vision for Soil Education” presented at a technical conference on forest soils in Catalonia
On November 25, 2024, the European project LOESS and its report, “Awareness, Needs and Vision for Soil Education”, were presented at the technical conference “Forest Soils: Education, Research, Transfer, and Management” at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). The conference was organized by the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Food of the Government of Catalonia, the Centre for Ecological Research and Forestry Applications (CREAF), the Centre for Forestry Technology and Research (CTFC), and the Forest Property Centre and gathered 60 participants.
The presentation, titled “The State and Future of Soil Health Education within the European LOESS Project Framework,” was delivered jointly by Núria Jové, head of projects at the Catalan Association of Public Universities (ACUP) and leader of the LOESS Community of Practice in Catalonia, and Àngela Garcia Lladó, associate professor at the University of Barcelona (UB) and member of Eduxarxa. Núria Jové introduced the LOESS project and the European-level findings of the report “Awareness, Needs and Vision for Soil Education”, while Àngela Garcia Lladó focused on the results specific to Catalonia.
The “Forest Soils” conference is a participatory and interdisciplinary event aimed at raising awareness about the importance of soils in ecosystems beyond production and ensuring their consideration in forest management in Catalonia. Its objectives include improving knowledge about forest soils, promoting the exchange of experiences among researchers, landowners, and administrations, sharing actions to mitigate impacts or restore soils, and fostering debate between owners and public and private entities to coordinate actions and generate new perspectives.
