About Public & Science Sweden: 

Based in Stockholm, Vetenskap & Allmänhet – Public & Science Sweden is a non-profit association whose purpose is to promote dialogue and openness between researchers and the public. Public & Science has around 100 member organisations representing universities, research institutes, public authorities, education associations, museums, research funding bodies as well as companies and private associations.  

Public & Science has extensive expertise in e.g. science communication, public engagement, Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI), citizen science and Open Science and acts as a knowledge hub, disseminating knowledge and experience, gained by itself and others, developing toolkits and best practice guidelines, and running training to support organisations and individuals develop their skills. 

National and EU-funded projects of particular relevance to the LOESS project, include SciShops, EU-Citizen.Science, AllthingsBio.PRO, BLOOM, Re:Fish, Tea Tales as well as a number of mass experiments with schools to investigate environmental issues. 

In the LOESS project, Public & Science is leading Work Package 3, developing soil teaching resources and learning modules. 

 

Maria Jacobson 

Maria is Project Manager for the LOESS project and joined Public & Science Sweden in May 2023. She has a background in international development cooperation with a focus on democracy, environment, and human rights issues. She previously worked at Swedish foundation Green Forum, where she was managing capacity building programs on democracy, leadership and sustainable development in Southern Africa and Europe. Prior to that she worked on global water issues at Stockholm International Water Institute.

Helen Garrison 

Helen has worked as a Project and Communications Manager for Public & Science Sweden since 2013, working mainly on EU-funded projects, including LOESS. Prior to Public & Science she worked at the British Council in Sweden, managing international projects, and developing new projects and partnerships.  This included leading a pan-European project working with young people to develop innovative project ideas to address climate change. Helen has also worked in a number of communication roles for the Department for Education and Skills and the Institution of Electrical Engineers in the UK.
